More and more high-level platforms, tunnel stations with elevators and low-floor buses with ramps make the use easier for people with reduced mobility. During the training days at "Messe/Nord", interested visitors may practise entry and exit as well as maneuvering inside the vehicle.
Being mobile, confidently and independently with the walking frame in local public transport: That is where the ÜSTRA would like to support as well elderly passengers. For this reason the ÜSTRA organises training days for interested people who would like to practise handling the walking frame inside the bus in a relaxed atmosphere. Our special trained instructors demonstrate the appropriate handling of the walking frame, provide valuable hints and answer your questions.

The drivers of the ÜSTRA buses and city rails will call you a taxi if you wish so to the stop, you would like to exit. Please speak to the driver as soon as you have entered the vehicle. This service is free, the price for the taxi you pay by yourself, as usual.
For some years now, the TaxiBus GmbH drives on behalf of the ÜSTRA all regular taxi orders and the call-a-taxi services with vehicles which are equipped with ramps. There are 20 high-capacity taxis available with ramps, restraint systems and trained personnel. The nationwide unique service offer enables mobility impaired ÜSTRA customers a barrier-free public transport, even when normally scheduled public-transit buses are replaced by taxis.
Since August 2006 passenger attendants can be found in the city rails of the ÜSTRA. They assist passengers during entry and exit, during the use of elevators and report disturbances – but they don't sell or inspect tickets. Do you need an assistance und special support during your journey with the public transportation? On demand we will bring you to your destination, if it's located within a radius of about 500 metres from the stop or we come to pick you up within these 500 metres and bring you from your door to the stop.
And this is how it works: The assistance services are available from Monday to Friday 7:00 to 19:00. Passengers need to announce their request at the latest 3-4 days beforehand (Mondays to Thursdays until 14:30, Fridays until 13:00) under the telephone number +49 511/ 166 826 93.
Passergers with a severe disability can use buses and trams within the GVH for free, if they have a severely handicapped pass including a supplementary sheet and a valid token. The token is available at the pension offices.
