Mask Requirements in Busses and Trams:
Lower Saxony and Bremen have agreed to phase out the mandatory mask requirement in public transport. It is to be abolished from February 2, 2023. Until February 2, 2023, passengers are required to wear a surgical mask on buses and trains in the entire area of the GVH (Großraum-Verkehr Hannover). Announcements and information displays in stations, at stops and in vehicles draw attention to the new requirement. ÜSTRA and regiobus monitor compliance with the obligation.
Exempted from this regulation are children up to completing the age of 6 and persons whose disease makes wearing masks impossible. Those should hold a corresponding certificate, which can be presented to the inspection personnel upon request.
All vehicles operated by ÜSTRA are already subjected to a thorough cleaning procedure on a daily basis. This includes sweeping the vehicles and an in-depth moist cleaning of all surfaces which passengers may come into contact with (e.g. straps, poles, etc.).
Besides this, the doors of all buses and trains open automatically.
