FAQ – Measures to contain the corona virus

On this site you find the frequently asked questions regarding our special corona virus measures.

Why don’t the buses and trams open all doors?

Our employees are advised to open all doors at every stop. As they have been advised differently for many years (especially during the colder seasons), the new instructions need to further sink in. So if a driver accidently forgets opening all doors at your stop, it’s not with ill intention but out of habit. We do keep reminding them about it as well.

Some buses however cannot open the rear door automatically due to technical reasons. Therefore we recommend using the middle door for exiting the bus.

Can I get a refund for my ticket?

There is a special accommodating arrangement for subscribers of the GVH monthly pass. If you maintain your subscription currently or you re-subscribe until June, you will get a 20 percent discount on your monthly passes for June, July and August.
Please understand that with the current developments of the corona virus, the GVH and the transportation companies need to focus on maintaining the public transport and keeping their passengers and employees safe.

How can I regain my lost valuables?

With regard to the current development of the coronavirus the Lost Property Office at Nordmannpassage 6 is closed for now. Clearly recognizable personal items such as driving licenses or passports can, after contacting their right owner, be sent by mail. All other items can be collected once the Office has reopened. If you lost something you can still get in contact with Lost Property Office to check if your lost item was found:

Email: fundbuero@uestra.de
Telephone: 0511 1668-5080

You can reach the Lost Property Office-staff from Monday - Friday between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Does the ÜSTRA customer centre remain open?

The ÜSTRA customer centre in Hanover City (Karmarschstraße 30/32) continues its regular service. Opening hours are from Monday to Friday, 9.30 am to 8 pm and Saturdays from 9.30 am till 6 pm. In order to avoid large numbers of visitors, ÜSTRA recommends buying tickets using the GVH app or stationary vending machines.

Will there still be ticket inspections?

For ticket inspections we took several protective measures to secure our employees and passengers, as the public transport still needs to be financed.

Additionally, the ticket inspectors as well as the security personnel is allowed to control the compliance with the mandatory mask-wearing.

What Kind of Mask Do I Have to Wear?

It is required to wear a medical mask such as (surgical masks, FFP2-masks or KN95/N95-masks). Therefore it is not sufficient to use a scarf or a cotton mask as a protection for mouth and nose. Children under the age of 15 are excluded. They do not have to wear medical masks. A scarf or a cotton mask would be sufficient. Children under six years of age do not have to wear a mask at all.
