regiobus Hannover GmbH

regiobus Hannover GmbH has been keeping moving the Hanover region since 1998. Since April 2024, regiobus has been operating under the ÜSTRA brand and has been part of a joint venture with ÜSTRA since January 2025.

At the beginning of the 1990s, three individual companies operated bus services in what was then the district of Hannover. These were Regionalverkehr Hannover (RVH), Steinhuder Meer-Bahn (StMB), and Verkehrsbetriebe Bachstein (VB).

At the end of the 1980s, a working group was set up with the aim of creating a single transport company for regional transport. This working group gave rise to Busverkehr und Service Großraum Hannover GmbH (B.U.S.) in the early 1990s. In 1998, it merged with the three individual companies to form regiobus Hannover GmbH.

At the beginning of November 2001, the Hanover region became the legal successor to the district and the Greater Hanover Municipal Association (KGH). Today, it covers the area of the former district and the state capital of Hanover. Among other things, the region took over the tasks of the district and the KGH and, as a result of the reorganization of the administrative structures, was given responsibility for local public transport in the greater Hanover area.

Since its foundation, regiobus has been able to continuously increase its passenger numbers. Currently, 26.9 million passengers use the company's comprehensive services – from regular scheduled services to on-demand taxis and bicycle buses on over 120 routes. This success is largely due to the dense network of stops and connections to other modes of transport. But the company also stands out for its increased focus on service and passenger comfort, the modernization of its fleet, the latest technology, and state-of-the-art environmental technologies.

regiobus is spread across six locations, with its administration in Hanover and depots in Burgdorf, Mellendorf, Neustadt a. Rbge., Wunstorf, and Eldagsen. With around 280 of its own buses and approximately 800 employees, as well as a further 130 vehicles from subcontractors, regiobus operates regional transport services in the Hanover area. The managing directors of regiobus are Denise Hain, Regina Oelfke, and Elke Maria van Zadel.

Since April 2024, regiobus has been operating under the ÜSTRA brand and, since January 2025, has been working in a joint venture with ÜSTRA to use resources more efficiently and maximize synergies.
