Nine transport companies, one fare, around 220 million passengers annually. The ÜSTRA transport association (formerly ‘Großraum-Verkehr Hannover’ (GVH)) is one of the oldest and most modern transport associations in Germany. Together with its partners, it contributes to improving mobility for people in the Hanover region.
The transport association for the Hanover region
The ÜSTRA transport association keeps people on the move and connects them in the Hanover region. In the major centres of Hanover, Garbsen and Langenhagen, as well as in the surrounding area. The nine transport companies ÜSTRA, regiobus, DB Regio, Transdev, metronom, erixx, WestfalenBahn, SVG and start Niedersachsen Mitte jointly organise local public transport to get you to your destination quickly and comfortably. You benefit from a coordinated service throughout the ÜSTRA area and a uniform fare across the entire network. The transport association keeps pace with the growing needs of passengers and makes it easier for everyone to access public transport. It continuously invests in modern vehicles, sustainable drive systems and customer-friendly digital services. More and more passengers appreciate what it has to offer: the ÜSTRA association is recording rising passenger numbers.
Sustainable mobility is important to us
The network helps to protect the environment and thus make the Hanover region even more liveable. Passengers opt for climate-friendly mobility and combine buses and trains with (rental) bicycles, car sharing or their own cars. Our services help to achieve the ambitious climate protection goals of the Hanover region. Modern vehicle technology, such as hybrid and electric buses or energy recovery in trams, also contributes to this.
The organisation
Although the association is registered in the commercial register as Großraum-Verkehr Hannover GmbH, it will operate publicly under the joint brand name ÜSTRA following the merger of the ÜSTRA, regiobus and GVH brands in April 2024. The majority shareholder and sole client is the Hanover region. The association's business is managed by Katharina Emde-Lachmund and Stefan Tiedgen.
